TRUE HOUSE STORIES W/ TIM LAWRENCE

Tim Lawrence interviewed by Lenny Fontana for True House Stories # 061

Part 1
Tim Lawrence the writer, DJ, professor and journalist sits with True House Stories and explains when his path crossed with house music and how he found the soundtrack that would change his life forever during The Summer of Love in 1988. The Hacienda was the first club he ventured too and loved the pulsating sounds coming from the speakers and from that point he was hooked.

His journey takes him to University in London and finds out about this party at The Gardening Club with DJ Chris Rhythm Doctor playing New York Style House Music all night. As he is working towards his degree in journalism, he loses his mother and father within months apart but dancing to house would be the pseudo healer. As he is finding his way through House Music and learning more and more about the players behind it.

Part 2
Tim Lawrence lays out in this part how he begins to work towards writing his first official book “Love Saves The Day”. Listen to Tim explain how he has no real interest in writing a Disco Book, and since he wanted to write about electronic music, he had to find out what came before.

In time he becomes good friends with the men who owned the record shop Dance Tracks NYC. They in turn get Tim to meet Owner of the famous The Loft – David Mancuso and the story begins from there. Tim then meets DJ Steve D’ Aquisto and many other industry moguls from the Pre-Disco Era and is handed the blue print to figure out. It takes a few years and many interviews and a lot of painstaking research to arrive to this masterpiece. He also shares the other books he has written in this episode.
